Pros and Cons of Various Types of Lights For Fish Tank

Lights For Fish Tank buyers guide is not only a handymen guide but also a great reference for first time fish aquarium owners. If you are considering buying lights for your new fish aquarium then this article will serve as a good starting point. Specifically in this article we are going to talk about Lights For Fish Tank, why fish need these lights, what different types of lights for fish tank are available and the benefits these particular types of lights provide. After reading this article you should have a good idea about how different types of fish tank lights work and which type of lights are suitable for your fish species and your aquarium.

What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Various Types of Lights For Fish Tank? There are many advantages and disadvantages associated with the use of different types of light for fish tanks. For example there are some aquarium owners who do not believe in using led aquarium lights or fluorescent bulbs for their fish tanks. However there are other owners who are not aware of the advantages and disadvantages of various types of lights for fish tanks.

In this article I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of lights for aquarium. Let us first start with the advantages. These types of lights are more beneficial than ordinary bulbs. The main advantage of using led light bulbs is that they produce a higher intensity of light compared to ordinary bulbs. This type of light is used for most aquariums because of its excellent light efficiency.

The main disadvantage of using led lights is that they are more expensive compared to ordinary bulbs. If you are a beginner or a novice fish tank owner then you should strongly consider the use of these lights. You can easily spend hundreds of dollars on buying new fish tank supplies including aquarium lighting. Secondly, you might not want to switch to this new style of aquarium lights for a long period of time. Once you have used up all the old bulbs then you will need to purchase new ones.

The next thing we will discuss is about the disadvantage of using them. There are many types of lights available in the market and the foremost disadvantage of using fluorescent bulbs or low wattage lights is that they last for only a few hours. If you are not careful then in just a few months you will find that they have dimmed down. Therefore, you have to make sure that the wattage of the bulbs that you are going to use is just right.

Another disadvantage of low wattage bulbs is that they produce an orange-yellow glow. Some people may not like this particular type of lighting effect and they may be annoyed by it. Some fluorescent lamps produce a white light glow that is great for marine aquarines. This type of lighting effect is also preferred by people who like to see the bottom of the aquarium.

The other disadvantage of low wattage lighting is that some algae grow better in the presence of blue light than they do of white light. If you are planning to use fluorescent lamps then you must make sure that there is adequate amount of sunlight coming into the aquarium. If there is insufficient amount of sunlight then chances are high that algae growth will be more in number than it should be. This will result in the growth of black or green algae.

The advantages of the above two types of lights are that they are more efficient, cost less and last longer. In fact, led lights are more durable than the other one but they do not produce any glow in blue color. If you want to get the best then you should go for the metal halide lamps because they are more efficient, cheaper and last longer. You can easily find some good looking metal halide lamps at local hardware store.
